WR#9

Please read two different tech-related articles from the National Writing Project. We have picked one for everyone to read; you get to pick the second on a topic of your choice from NWP's tech resources list.
  1. The Article We Will All Read: "Keeping the Promise of the 21st Century: Bringing Classroom Teaching into the Digital Age." This four-page report from Inverness Research summarizes/analyzes the ways in which NWP's technology initiatives support teachers and students. (If the link above fails or gets wonky, try this avenue: http://www.nwp.org/cs/public/print/resource/2865.)

  2. The Listing of Articles from Which We Can Select Our Own:
    Technology Liaison Network Resources List
    Technology Initiative Resources List
(These lists actually contain many of the same resources but in a different order.)
Now please interact in writing with the articles in some way. Maybe one of these ideas will provide a fruitful platform for that interaction:
  1. What is interesting about the two articles you read? exciting? depressing? inspiring?
  2. Write a review of one or both articles. Please give yourself permission to pick an audience for this review: Atlantic Monthly, Highlights Magazine, California English, TV Guide, National Enquirer, Playboy (I'm told it has good articles), Christian Science Monitor, Cook's Illustrated, Backwoods Home, the NY Post, your own blog. . . .
  3. Write a letter to the author(s) on behalf of your students, their parents, or your school or district.
  4. Sketch the plotline and cast the actors for a movie based on either article. Use VoiceThread or Jing to create a pitch for your sliver-screen venture.
  5. Summarize the article by crafting a string of Tweets.
  6. Draft a writing assignment based on what you read.
Please post WR#9 to GooDocs by Monday, August 10 (follow this link if you would appreciate a reminder about how to do so). Please response on GooDocs to your colleagues' WRs before Friday, August 14. Thank you.
